Happy First Anniversary to my son and daughter-in-law! I used book pillars as decorations at their rehearsal dinner so felt it was appropriate to do something similar for their anniversary gift, especially since the traditional gift is "paper". If you click on the link above, I give more information on how to make these.
I layered several ribbons and stitched them together to wrap around the book and added this picture charm.

For a little more interest I used a vintage clip, pearl and a charm (on top) from an old necklace along with a few old 'washers'. The picture was one of their wedding photos that I altered using Picmonkey (a great, free photo editing program). Here is what the original looked like:

On the top of the pillar I added a this flat marble. I found a piece of music in a 150 year old song book and thought these lines from the song were perfect to put on the pillar
The book pillars are a lot of fun to do and are so versatile. You can make some and change out the bands and decorative pieces for different holidays too! I love working with books and book pages . . . do you have any favorite projects using book pages?
